80% of adults with autism and/or intellectual developmental disabilities are un(der)employed. Each year, The Power of the Dream hold a 10-week course called PowerUP ME to teach adults with autism/IDD how to create their own very small business, or "micro-enterprise", as a powerful complement to traditional employment. The classes are led by disability and business experts, but we are looking for some dedicated volunteers to assist us!

No knowledge of disability or business is required, just the willingness to learn and help others! All volunteers over the age of 18 are welcome.

The 2018 course runs every Saturday from January 20th through March 31st (with one break on February 24th), from 10 AM to 12 PM. You may volunteer for as many or as little classes as you’d like. A volunteer orientation session will be held in January (date & time TBD).

About The Power of the Dream, Inc.

Location:

Mission Statement

Creating jobs and advocating for adults with autism and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD). The lack of opportunities for adults with autism/IDD becomes glaringly obvious when this population leaves the school system after the age of 22. Prior to age 22, school and several other services are federally and state mandated. For adults with disabilities, services are based on eligibility and availability, and those services are becoming increasingly scarce. The Power of the Dream is an organization that recognizes these challenges and envisions a future where adults with autism/IDD have meaningful choices wherever they live, learn, earn, play and pray.

Description

The Power of the Dream, Inc. leads a Triangle wide community collaboration to creat jobs and training opportunities for adults with autism and/or intellectaul developmental disabilities.
