Horse Handler

ORGANIZATION: Rescues Who Rescue Inc.

Locket's Meadow Farm (part of Rescues Who Rescue) is in great need of people with horse experience who can lead, exercise, ride, groom, and help care for some of our 35+ horses. Our horses come from a variety of backgrounds, many including abuse and neglect situations, and we are looking for people with good horse skills that can help to give our horses the attention and exercise they need and deserve. You must be able to lead, saddle, ride, and/or groom horses without training or oversight. If you've got the experience and prefer not to ride, but can assist with the other tasks, that works too! However, all volunteers must get approval of one of our directors or managers and adhere to the policies we have in place for how our horses are trained. We also ask that horse handlers help with the feeding, watering, and cleaning associated with the horses. Just think - most people have to pay to have this kind of interaction with horses... here, all we ask is that you visit consistently and help with their care!

Mission Statement

Locket's Meadow strives every day to create a farm animal sanctuary and riding facility that helps to support our passion for rescuing animals from slaughter, abuse and neglect situations, and to give them a place where they can live out their days in comfort and surrounded by love.

Description

Locket's Meadow is a farm animal rescue and sanctuary in Bethany, CT. We began saving PMU foals in 2002, rescued from the Premarin industry, and eventually welcomed horses from other slaughter, abuse and neglect situations. Over the years hundreds of horses have passed through our farm on their way to adoptive homes. Some have stayed and become lesson horses in our programs while others are used for therapy, both mounted and on the ground. Some are unable to work and we offer them retirement, and give the equivalent of Hospice care when the time comes. All are loved as members of our family, as are all the other animals on our farm, from pigs and sheep to goats and roosters.
