Mission Statement

Out For Justice is a returning citizen & member-led organization with the mission to engage, educate, and empower (3E’s) individuals with criminal records in Maryland to create structural change through legislation, policy reform & advocacy. We believe that individuals impacted by the criminal justice system should be at the forefront of policy reform that directly affects us, our families and communities. Targeting unjust, counterproductive policies reduces collateral consequences associated with a criminal record, provides a fiscally responsible method for reducing recidivism, and increases the health & safety of our communities. We accomplish this through the three E’s. OFJ engages formerly incarcerated individuals, families & friends through grassroots outreach and community events. We educate our member base and communities on the legislative process & empower those impacted by the criminal justice system to utilize their voices & experiences to enact tangible change.

Description

Out For Justice, Inc. (OFJ), was founded in 2006 by a formerly incarcerated female who recognized the level of difficulty and the numerous barriers in place as individuals transitioned from incarceration back to society.
