The Food Security Volunteer for Elder Services is responsible for working with an assigned client who is a homebound elder living in South Boston Senior Housing located on L Street. Catholic Charities is working with a local food pantry to provide groceries on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Pick up from pantry is 11:30AM. The volunteer will (pick up and) deliver of a bag of groceries on a monthly basis and assist his/her assigned client with unpacking and putting away groceries. Volunteer would be having a conversation and spending approximately 20-30 minutes with the client during the delivery and unpacking process. The position requires a monthly commitment of at least 6 months.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establish/maintain relationship with assigned client
- Be able to deliver groceries to a homebound elder on a monthly basis
- Establish appropriate boundaries with client
- Attend occasional trainings
- Ability to clearly communicate with and provide feedback to Director
- Demonstrate professionalism and a positive attitude when working with client
- Will require lifting grocery bag(s) of approximately 20 lbs.
- Must maintain confidential information in a professional manner at all times
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work with people from all walks of life in a caring non-judgmental way
- Experience with working with elders
- Comfortable interacting with people on a one-on-one basis
- Ability to lift, push or pull 20 lbs of groceries
- Ability to speak another language (Spanish or Albanian) in addition to English is helpful but not required
