The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
" Become a Hospice Volunteer. No prior experience is required. All you need is your willingness to extend compassion to others. We will provide you with our comprehensive training and ongoing support. " Volunteers provide non-clinical care, and it can be as simple as sitting by the patient's bedside, listening with compassion, playing music, reading a book or running a quick errand, providing a respite relief for patient family members and caregivers. " Volunteers visit patients all the way from South San Francisco down to Palo Alto, and we match volunteers based on their location proximity and availability. " Time commitment: we ask for 1-2 hours a week, and work with patients and families to accommodate a good mutual visit time. " We provide a very comprehensive training prior to volunteer-patient assignment. Our next Volunteer Training will begin late January 2018 (usually two evenings per week or two weekends, TBD).
We are also looking for Veteran Hospice Volunteers: " The Veteran-to-Veteran Program aims to pair volunteers with hospice patients who have the unique ability to relate and connect with a patient who is Veteran, creating an environment where life review and healing may occur. " The rest as above.
