Rescues Who Rescue Inc.

Love horses? This is the opportunity for you! At Locket's Meadow Farm Sanctuary (aka Rescues Who Rescue), we love our animals deeply, and strive to give them the best care possible. This is a physical position where you will get your hands dirty (and pants...and boots!), but you will become fast friends with our 35 amazing rescue horses in the process!

We're specifically looking for people with horse experience who can help with morning and afternoon chores to take good care of our sweet babies (ok - they are adults, but babies to us). Morning shift will include helping to feed and turnout horses, make sure water buckets in the barn and water troughs in the paddocks are clean and full, and cleanup the stalls. Afternoon shift will be feeding horses, moving them in and out of the barn, and getting the barn ready for it to all happen again the next day! Experience haltering, leading, and working closely with horses is a must!

We need volunteers in two shifts: 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We ask that our horse care volunteers complete at least one shift per week in order to be able to learn the routine and who all of our resident horses are. Since this position will require a fair amount of training to our preferences and familiarity with our horses, we ask only volunteers able to make a long-term commitment apply.

You will need to dress in clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Work gloves and waterproof boots with good traction are highly recommended for your safety.

Youth volunteers age 15 and older who have the needed experience and can complete chores with minimal supervision are welcome.

Mission Statement

Locket's Meadow strives every day to create a farm animal sanctuary and riding facility that helps to support our passion for rescuing animals from slaughter, abuse and neglect situations, and to give them a place where they can live out their days in comfort and surrounded by love.

Description

Locket's Meadow is a farm animal rescue and sanctuary in Bethany, CT. We began saving PMU foals in 2002, rescued from the Premarin industry, and eventually welcomed horses from other slaughter, abuse and neglect situations. Over the years hundreds of horses have passed through our farm on their way to adoptive homes. Some have stayed and become lesson horses in our programs while others are used for therapy, both mounted and on the ground. Some are unable to work and we offer them retirement, and give the equivalent of Hospice care when the time comes. All are loved as members of our family, as are all the other animals on our farm, from pigs and sheep to goats and roosters.
