Take a Break in the Dirt Spring 2018 Program

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Hope Grows

  • 6 people are interested

Take a Break in the Dirt is a seasonal, volunteer-run, respite and adaptive gardening program that engages children with disabilities, ages 5-17, in gardening and nature-related activities while their family (caregiver) takes a well-earned break. Children are matched with a volunteer who guides and supports them, whether they have a physical, intellectual, or developmental disability. As a Green Thumb volunteer, you will work side-by-side with a child and creatively adapt the gardening activities to fit their needs.

Volunteers are screened and background checks are required. Volunteers are also required to attend a training in the TakeFIVE Respite Care Worker Model and Hope Grows Therapeutic Horticulture Model. The spring 2018 program meets once per week, 9:30 to noon on Saturdays for 6 weeks, April 28 through June 2, at the Conroy Page Street Community Garden (Manchester Neighborhood of the Northside of Pittsburgh).

We are currently recruiting volunteers interested in participating in our Spring 2018 program starting April 28, and for those who may be interested in continuing on with other seasons. Contact us for details about requirements, training, and program dates. Email info@hopegrows.net or call (412) 369-4673.
