Gavit High School in Partnership with Junior Achievement of Chicago-NWI Division will bring it's Personal Finance Program to the 11th and 12th grade students in a mini workshop on Thursday morning, January 9th. No experience needed! JA provides all the materials and instructions for a fun and engaging morning with the students!

Students will experience the interrelationship between today’s financial decisions and future financial freedom. To achieve financial health and wellness, they learn about money-management strategies, including earning, employment and income, budgeting, savings, credit and debt, consumer protection, smart shopping, risk management, and investing. At the conclusion of this program, students will be able to identify how their personal finances affect their quality of life. They will understand how their financial choices will be the basis of how they get what they want and need.

Junior Achievement believes strongly in providing youth with foundational financial literacy skills that will help them be successful adults! Come be a part of this amazing opportunity to truly make a positive impact in the lives of young Hammond students.

Students who participate in Junior Achievement of Chicago programs qualify to apply for our college scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $40,000. Junior Achievement of Chicago, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Mission Statement

To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy.

Description

Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. In partnership with businesses and educators, JA brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential.

Our corporate and community volunteers deliver relevant, hands-on experiences that give students from kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world - enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school.

Throughout JA's sequential and integrated kindergarten through high school programs, students think critically and solve complex problems. Through our business, financial, and entrepreneurial educational programs, we prepare students to:

  • Proactively manage their finances;
  • Become entrepreneurs; and
  • Develop skills that will be recognized and valued in a global workforce.

During the 2017-2018 school year, JA of Chicago successfully reached 600,222 students of all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds and physical capabilities, including at-risk youth in twelve Chicago-area and northwestern Indiana counties.
