Massaro Community Farm is staffed by full,/part time year round and seasonal staff members. However, many functions - such as hosting our weekly CSA pickup - that are performed by valued volunteers from April through November. We always welcome an extra set of hands! While we can certainly put your green thumb to work, those aren’t the only skills we need. The farm has committees that oversee our buildings & grounds, as well as outreach, programming, legal and financial matters, and we appreciate the input and talents of our community members in all of these areas. We also welcome groups wishing to visit the farm as part of a community service project.

Here are the primary ways you can help:

Field Work: Join our knowledgeable farm field staff as they plant, seed, water, harvest and weed our 8 cultivated acres, where we grow the majority of our produce for CSA members, farmer’s markets and local restaurants.

Tuesdays through Thursdays 8:30am - 12:00pm (in season)

Learning Garden/CSA pickup: These activities are less strenuous than field work. You can engage families as they explore the raised beds in the Learning Garden, planting & picking as they go or feeding our friendly farm chickens. Or you can greet visitors and CSA subscribers as they make their weekly stop at the farm for the fresh veggies.

Miscellaneous: Anything from weeding to trail maintenance to replenishing our trail guides. You may also be asked to do miscellaneous chores in the barn or office.

Fridays 9:00am - 12:00pm (in season)

If you’re not sure about making a long term commitment, we also hold events throughout the year and have opportunities for volunteers to step in for a few hours to help with children’s activities, greeting and directing attendees, directing parking and more. Your few hours of time spent with us help a great deal. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 203-736-8618.

Mission Statement

Keep Farming. Feed People. Build Community.

Description

Massaro Community Farm is a non profit, certified-organic farm on a 57-acre parcel of land operated collaboratively between the Town of Woodbridge and a Board of Directors comprised of local citizens. The property was deeded to the town by the Massaro Family, who had farmed the land since 1916. Our farm operation includes a 200-member CSA, a weekly presence at Woodbridge and CitySeed Farmer’s Markets (Edgewood Park on Sundays and Wooster Square on Saturdays), and sale of our produce to select area restaurants. Each year, we donate at least 10% of what we grow to local hunger relief agencies. We have donated more than 50,000 pounds of food since 2010!

Our farm also holds a series of education and family-related events throughout the year, including spring and fall festivals, and a 2-week, half-day summer camp each August. We collaborate with numerous other community organizations to share our passion for locally grown food, thoughtful land stewardship and education. Our vision is to enhance the quality of life for generations to come by engaging the community in a range of farm-based activities.
