Do you have an academic background, an interest in criminal and social justice and giving back to a community of people who often go neglected and overlooked? Become part of a movement which provides a quality college education to over 500 hundred imprisoned men and women and has awarded as many degrees, with over 600 alumni returned to their families and communities. If so, then Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison has the perfect opportunity for you!

We are currently looking for volunteers to serve as Instructors and Teaching Assistants for pre-college level Math & English courses offered in the Summer and Fall of 2018 at Shawangunk State Correctional Facility located in Ulster County, NY. Shawangunk is the newest of six college programs Hudson Link has initiated throughout the region.

The opportunity is one night a week from 6:00 to 8:40 PM. We are looking for individuals who can make a 12-month commitment to the students.

Mission Statement

Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison provides college education, life skills and re-entry support to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated men and women to help them make a positive impact on their own lives, their families and communities, resulting in lower rates of recidivism, incarceration and poverty. Hudson Link was founded in 1998, at a time where New York state and federal funding for college education in prisons ceased. The abrupt loss of a college program had a devastating effect on prison morale. As a result, inmates at Sing Sing Correctional Facility reached out to religious and academic volunteers for assistance, which received their immediate response. Today, Hudson Link provides college preparatory and college degree granting program in 6 New York State Correctional Facilities, partnering with Columbia University and Mercy, Nyack, SUNY Ulster, SUNY Sullivan, Siena and Vassar Colleges.
