Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes; too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, and even prison as adults.
Since 1999, the Visitation and Advocacy Center (formerly CASA) has been recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers who advocate for children in the 6th Judicial District. The volunteers' goal is to ensure safety and permanency for children whose lives are in turmoil.
As trained volunteers, advocates are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court; the result is they are placed into safe, loving homes where they can thrive.
A Volunteer: Who are they? -Honest, ethical, and supportive -Responsible and committed -Able to handle complex emotional issues -Dedicated to children's rights -Able to adhere to strict confidentiality policies
