Clallam Bay Corrections Center1830 Eagle Crest WayClallam Bay, WA 98326

Join Freedom Project inside the Clallam Bay Corrections Center as we provide opportunities for folks who are incarcerated to practice Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and mindfulness. Volunteers can engage in the prison classes and workshops in multiple ways, including as facilitators (please see other posting!), assistants, or even just as class participants.

Freedom Project classes run at this facility from 5 to 20 weeks at a time on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 PM. These class series range from an introduction to Nonviolent Communication to more advanced practice groups.

We expect class and workshop volunteers to have...

  • Willingness to participate
  • Knowledge of NVC and/or mindfulness
  • A non-heirarchical and anti-oppressive approach to the classroom
  • Social justice lens that brings an awareness of the prison system, mass incarceration, racial equity, and anti-oppression frameworks
  • Time commitment of 6+ months (given the time it takes to process new volunteers through the prison and the long-term nature of our prison programming)

We welcome skills of all levels. Freedom Project works to provide training opportunities around various skills that will improve the capacity of volunteers to engage in NVC and mindfulness classes in the prison (including a monthly anti-oppression training, NVC trainings, and facilitation skill workshops).
