The Great Kindness Challenge 2018

Kids for Peace, home to The Great Kindness Challenge creates peace through youth leadership, community service, global friendships, and thoughtful acts of kindness.

As a way to mobilize millions of youth and families to cultivate a kinder world, Kids for Peace started The Great Kindness Challenge in 2012 with three Carlsbad, CA schools. This past January, the challenge engaged over 10 million students in half a billion acts of kindness in over 91 countries! This year we are looking to double our impact!

Each year, our students participate in Kind Coins, a unifying campaign to support a community in need. This year we are responding to the devastating hurricane season and building playgrounds in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico as part of our Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief. Our first playground will be unveiled on Monday, January 29 at Bales Intermediate in Friendswood, Texas.

To kick-off The Great Kindness Challenge and culminate this amazing campaign, Kids for Peace is rolling out a Kindness Matters tour that will visit Great Kindness Challenge schools and local organizations, from Carlsbad, CA to Houston, TX. We will be conducting the 50 kind acts along the way, spreading cheer, love and peace! Join the Kids for Peace express as a bus driver and help create a world that is more compassionate and empathetic!

About The Great Kindness Challenge:
The Great Kindness Challenge is a one-week program that is simple to implement, easy to adjust to fit your needs and is free! The program is centered on a 50-item checklist, which is comprised of kind acts created and performed by our youth. The goal is to empower our students by cultivating compassion, kindness and empathy in the classroom and beyond. For more information, please visit our website: www.thegreatkindnesschallenge.org. This upcoming challenge is scheduled for January 22-26, 2018.

About Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief: Each year our Great Kindness Challenge schools and youth participate in a unifying campaign to support a community in need. This year, we are responding to the historic hurricane season and raising funds to build playgrounds at hurricane affected schools in Florida, Louisiana, Puerto Rico and Texas. Check out our Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief video, featuring Jet Stream Jax - an eight-year-old storm chaser, reminding us that play heals and asking us to help. About the Kindness Matters Tour: Kids for Peace will be kicking of The Great Kindness Challenge by taking our Kids for Peace Express on the road! We will be designing and decorating our Kids for Peace Express (an old school bus) with the help of four local artists, Hasbro’s Burbank Creative Team and of course, our Kids for Peace YOUTH! We will be taking the bus on tour, kicking off The Great Kindness Challenge (GKC) on Monday, January 22 by visiting all participating Carlsbad schools. And then, taking the Kindness Matters Tour to San Diego (Tuesday, January 23) to visit more GKC schools; Phoenix (Wednesday, January 24) to conduct kind acts from our Family Edition by giving food to someone who is hungry at Umom, the largest homeless shelter in Phoenix, and bringing a treat to someone in the hospital at Dignity Health; El Paso (Thursday, January 25) to bring games to a senior center; San Antonio (Friday, January 26) to bring a donation to a humane society/animal shelter; Houston (Friday, January 26-29) to visit local GKC schools, potentially attend a Houston Rockets game to conduct more kind acts and of course, finish and unveil our first playground as part of Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief!

Volunteer need: We are seeking an experienced volunteer bus driver to drive from Monday, January 22 to Thursday, February 1. We will provide all accommodations, including food, travel and hotel stay.
