ORGANIZATION: Kitsap County Human Services

Kitsap Dept Human Services

Kitsap County needs your help, and more volunteers than ever for the annual 2018 Point-in-Time Count. We need adult volunteers Thursday January 25th, 2018 to help survey people experiencing homelessness.

Survey Volunteers will survey homeless individuals sleeping unsheltered during the day of the count in areas not ordinarily used as a place for human habitation including sidewalks, parks, wooded areas, transit stations, commercial establishments, alleyways, vehicles, and encampments.

The count will take place between 6:30am-noon on Thursday, January 25th. Survey Volunteers are asked to commit to a 6 hour shift (less if surveying is completed early) plus 1 hour of training time prior to the count.

Survey Volunteers will work in assigned teams under the leadership of someone with experience in the field. As volunteers will be walking along paths and through wooded areas, please make sure to wear clothing suitable to the weather and terrain.

We encourage all volunteers to bring a cellphone, pens (black or blue), and a clipboard if possible.

Qualifications
* Self-motivated and able to work well with little supervision
* Ability to make clear decisions with sound judgement
* Dependable, adaptable, flexible, and punctual
* Volunteers surveying outdoors will need to be able to stand and walk for at least 6 hours.
* Access to reliable mode of transportation
* Able to complete training specific to the volunteer position
* Fluency in a second language is an asset, especially Spanish, or other languages or dialects, but is not required.

You can make a difference in your neighborhood by volunteering a few hours of your time! No experience necessary and training will be provided.

Your efforts will help to inform local, state, and federal funders about the scope of homelessness in our county, and help to channel funding and other resources to local communities to help people exit life on the streets and prevent homelessness.
