The 2019-2020 Emergency Winter Warming Shelter at AmeriCorps St. Louis operates from December to March, and we are excited to see both new and familiar faces volunteering with us this season!
Our shelter is known as "My Mother's House," so anyone experiencing homelessness can tell their peers, "I stay at my mother's house." Our shelter opens Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights when the temperature is AT or BELOW 20°F or AT or BELOW 25°F with precipitation (i.e. snow, rain, sleet).

Winter Outreach and AmeriCorps St. Louis decide to activate the shelter by 1:00 PM the day before. If you sign up for a shift and we do not activate, here are 3 ways you can find out:
- SignUpGenius - all shifts for that day will be canceled and those who signed up will be notified by email
- Facebook - we post whether or not the shelter is activating by 1:00 PM the day before
- Twitter - we tweet whether or not the shelter is activating by 1:00 PM the day before
It is okay if you cannot stay for the whole shift! Leave us a comment when you sign up to let us know what part of the shift you will be present for.
Please call our office at (314) 772-9002 with any questions.

Mission Statement
The MISSION of AmeriCorps St. Louis is to enhance the professional skills and life-long ethic of the young men and women who serve; to respond to critical unmet needs in the areas of emergency response and environmental conservation; to leverage service of volunteers; and to build the capacity of our partnering agencies and communities we serve.
Description
AmeriCorps, if you are not familiar, is the domestic version of the Peace Corps. Since 1994, AmeriCorps St. Louis has attracted more than 1000 recent college graduates, from all over the country, who share a common desire to give back to their country. This September of 2016 begins AmeriCorps St. Louis’ 23rd year of service.
Our Members are trained as Emergency Responders and respond both locally and nationally to the wide variety of disasters that often turn people’s lives upside-down in a matter of minutes-from ice storms to hurricanes, and from tornados to flooding and forest fires. When not deployed on a disaster, Members provide conservation work for the State of Missouri.
In the winter of 2009, we added a third element to our organization. Partnering with Winter Outreach, we opened a Winter Warming Shelter at an urgent request of the City Department of Human Services to provide shelter for those in need when the temperature drops below 20 degrees. This shelter runs soley on donations and volunteers.
