Studies suggest that volunteers are healthier and live longer! Volunteering will help you develop new job skills as well as apply current skills in new ways. You will meet people both professionally and personally that can help you look for jobs and your volunteer supervisor can serve as a job reference. Volunteering also allows you to explore different career options. There are many gifts you can share as a hospice volunteer. Some of these gifts are reading a book, looking at pictures, writing letters, office support, scrapbooking, listening to stories, walking the dog or sharing a hobby. Can you offer a smile, a tender touch or simply a compassionate ear to someone? Whether you have one hour per week or once a month, what little time you give will make a huge impact on a hospice patient's life.
