Hike assistants are needed to guide student groups on forested trails. Persons with special knowledge of trees and associated animal habitat is preferred. The ability or willingness to engage and teach children is important.
Volunteer hours are typically in mornings from about 9am - 1pm. Our school programs occur in April, May and June, our busiest time of year.
Perfect position for retired teachers or college students becoming future teacher.

The Forest Resource Education Center (FREC) offers educational hikes and programs to community groups and schools to promote appreciation for New Jersey forests.
FREC is the public outreach division for the New Jersey Forest Service. Our facility includes an exhibition hall and classroom located within 865-forested acres located in central New Jersey.
Annually we host about 1500 students on 1.5-hour educational hikes along our variety of forested trails. Volunteers, with environmental backgrounds, are needed as Hike Leaders for student groups as well as adult community groups.
