About APA Family Support Services

Location:

657 Jackson Street, san francisco, CA 94133, US

Mission Statement

APA's mission is to promote healthy Asian/Pacific Islander children and families by providing family support services to prevent child abuse and domestic violence. APA also advocates for culturally competent services for Asians and Pacific Islanders through education, community building and leadership development. APA is the only hospital-based agency offering in-home family support services specifically for Asian Pacific Islander families and children.

Description

APA was founded in 1987 by Dr. Don Wong as the only hospital-based, in-home support program in California specifically serving high-risk Asian and Pacific Islander (API) families. APA's mission is to promote healthy API children and families and to advocate for culturally competent services for Asians and Pacific Islanders through education, community building and leadership development.
Over the years, APA has expanded its services as the client base has grown with the growing number of API families into San Francisco. Most of our clients are isolated recent immigrants, of low socioeconomic status, have limited English proficiency, and are historically under-served.
We provide a comprehensive model of intervention that is cost-effective, linguistically appropriate and culturally acceptable. Our bilingual/bicultural early intervention services include: In-Home Family Visitation, Case Management, Support Groups, Bilingual Counseling, Parenting Education Classes, a Parental Stress Hotline in six API languages, Economic Self-Sufficiency Program and SafeStart Domestic Violence Project.
