DEPDC/GMS is a non-profit, non-governmental organization headquartered in Mae Sai, Thailand. The organization works to prevent young girls and boys from being trafficked into exploitative working conditions such as commercial sex work and forced labor. DEPDC/GMS does this by providing education, protection, community outreach and youth leadership development to at-risk individuals.

Since its inception in 1989, DEPDC/GMS has welcomed volunteers from all over the world. Volunteers are essential to DEPDC/GMS as they share their experiences, expertise, skills and culture to help run the projects and contribute to the organization’s growth. Volunteers also gain international experience, develop new relationships, and partake in rewarding and meaningful work. It is a fulfilling experience for all involved - one that creates memories for a lifetime!

New project beginning in January 2018: Intensive Youth Training to Prevent Risk Migration. This program has been supported by UNESCO and is in its planning stages. Volunteers and Interns are needed; those with backgrounds in community development, anti-human trafficking, and education are preferred. This project will train 100-youth leaders, the next generation of anti-human trafficking NGOs, community developers, and youth leaders to prevent trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of exploitation of women and children.

Mission Statement

Build an efficient, open, thriving marketplace that connects people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them.

Description

GlobalGiving was founded by two former World Bank executives who decided to use the Internet to create a highly efficient marketplace. The GlobalGiving platform enables more funding to reach projects throughout the globe, and, at the same time, provides a more transparent, engaging way for donors to give.
Because we enable donors to give directly to projects, they know exactly where their money is going. Donors can see progress updates on most projects as funding is received and goals are met.

Donations made through GlobalGiving are higher impact because:

  • Money is going directly to a well-defined project versus supporting general operating expenses
  • Projects on globalgiving.com have exposure to thousands of donors, enabling us to aggregate multiple sources of funding for each project
  • Many projects on globalgiving.com are located in the developing world where a little money goes a long way
