Cooking as a Second Language is a cooking workshop, that brings the food and languages of different nations to a space where instructors and participants can create unique dishes that communicate across cultural boundaries.

Here stories, explore recipes, and learn about a different language while preparing a traditional Puerto Rican meal with Ivone Artuz-Melendez.

Volunteers will help set up, write name tags, facilitate group cooking, and clean up. Volunteers will also interact with community members and hostel guests and attempt to initiate conversation about culture and food.

Hostelling International USA is proud to announce the opening of our newest hostel in the heart of Downtown Richmond, Virginia! HI Richmond joins the ranks of HI USA's highly rated urban hostels and is another great stop for travelers exploring the East Coast. The historic brick building has undergone a complete renovation and features all the latest amenities travelers require, like free Wi-Fi and breakfast, in a space that captures the spirit and essence of this vibrant Southern city.

In addition, at HI Richmond we offer our travelers several opportunities to come together for cultural exchange and connect with the local community. These opportunities include weekly community meals, movie nights and tours of local Richmond hotspots. HI Richmond is looking for great volunteers to assist with these great activities.
