Here’s your chance to lend a helping hand at the largest walk-in free tax preparation site in Central Indiana. You can learn to prepare taxes and make a difference at the same time by becoming a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program .
Qualified volunteers should possess strong computer skills, attention to detail, customer service skills and the ability to understand and answer questions about the tax preparation process and individual tax situations. All volunteers will receive training and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) certification.
Your role as volunteer continues to be the most important part in our ability to deliver free tax services to our community. In 2017, volunteers prepared more than 6,100 tax returns for Central Indiana residents at no cost, resulting in more than $5.6 million in federal refunds returning to the community and $1.5 million saved in tax preparation services.

The site administrator acts as the primary resource for sharing knowledge of the program and assists with issues that may arise. The administrator helps answer the phone, complete tax site reporting, maintain supplies, and completes other administrative functions. Tax law certification is not required for this position .
