ORGANIZATION: Shared Housing Services

Shared Housing Services find home owners or renters (Home Providers) who have an extra bedroom or two and are matched with a person seeking housing (Home Seeker).

Shared Housing Services is currently recruiting for Home Providers in the Pierce County area. Shared Housing Services has been around since 1991 and continues to provide the community with the Adult Homeshare program along with the Transitional Family Housing program and Youth Host Home program. To become a Home Provider you will have to complete the Home Provider application on our website at sharedhousingservices.org. Once the application is submitted come into our office to complete the background check ($20.00), bring in your ID and social security card. Once the background check and other documentation are turned in, the Case Manager will contact you to set up a home visit to go over your application and build your matching criteria. After the home visit referrals will be given to Home Seekers who have finished the application process and intake/interview process as well.

Once a Home Provider and Home Seeker meet they are encouraged to complete a month to month lease together. If services such as house keeping, errands, etc are to be exchanged for reduced rent, Home Providers and Home Seekers are encouraged to also fill out the Home Share Agreement form.

Rent in the Adult Homeshare Program goes between $400.00 to $500.00 a month. Home Seekers pay Home Providers directly.

Mission Statement

Connecting people and fostering independence through innovative and affordable housing, because everyone needs a place to call home.

Description

For 21 years, Shared Housing Services has been matching low-income/homeless families & individuals to community members with room to spare through our Adult Home Sharing Program. We are now implementing the Host Home program, modeled after our very successful Adult Home Sharing Program. The Host Home program pairs a young person experiencing homelessness with a concerned individual/family that has a spare bedroom and wants to make a difference. We also provide housing and case management for families through our Transitional Family Housing program.
