Pet Companionship teams needed
Who's got the cutest dog?

Do you have the sweetest dog in the world and feel that love is meant to be shared with others? Hospice patients often find great joy when visited by pet companionship teams. Owners with their dogs visit our patients in locations all over the Mishawaka and Elkhart areas on a one-to-one basis which is attractive for those dogs who do better without lots of other dogs around.

Our pet companion teams have amazing results with our patients - often connecting with patients that others have a difficult time reaching. Cats are also sometimes requested too!

Due to covid-19 volunteer visits are restricted at this time. We are still on boarding volunteers so they are ready once the restrictions are lifted.

Mission Statement

To provide innovative healthcare one person, one family, and one community at a time.

Description

AseraCare is a family-centered hospice. We provide hospice services to patients and their families in the place they call home - in their apartment or house, assisted living or nursing home. Our services include RN case management, home health aid visits, social work, spiritual care, volunteers, and bereavement support for the families.

Hospice volunteers are needed in St. Joseph's County, Elkhart County, Marshall County, LaGrange, Fulton County and Kosciusko County to provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families according to the patient's plan of care. Hospice patients are individuals with terminal illnesses with a life expectancy of 6 months or less. Volunteer support me be in form of conversation, handholding, simple presence at the bedside, recreational activities, and pet/music therapy. Volunteers have the opportunity to develop on-going relationships with patients and families throughout their illness, or may be involved in short term "vigil" relationships.
