ORGANIZATION: STEM Scouts - Central Texas

STEM Scouts

Key volunteer role providing leadership to the central Texas STEM district. Works closely with the District STEM Executive and volunteer district committee. Leads district committee and organizes through meetings with well-developed agendas and minutes. Key goals include membership growth in both number of Labs and schools, increasing visibility and recognition of STEM Scouts, fundraising and improving quality of STEM Lab experience. Well respected and well connected in community through private and/or public experience.

STEM Scouts helps girls and boys learn about science, technology, engineering and math through creative, hands-on activities, field trips and interaction with STEM professionals. STEM Scouts is a coed program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), STEM Scouts offers a scouting experience with less emphasis on the outdoors. STEM Scouts follows the Scout Oath and Law with the goal of producing young men and women who are leaders, display confidence, realize their skills and limitations, are respectful of others’ opinions, are problem solvers in all aspects of life, look for opportunities to serve others, are good citizens and demonstrate integrity in all phases of life.

Mission Statement

Using experiential activities and interaction with STEM professionals, the goal of the STEM Scouts program is to help young people grow in character and skills as they explore their curiosity about STEM fields.

Description

Science, technology, engineering, and math aren't just for the classroom anymore. STEM Scouts brings girls and boys together to shape, tinker, explore, and make. From robots to chemical reactions and circuits to insects, STEM Scouts gives kids the opportunity to dive into a breadth of STEM topics while meeting STEM professionals and learning to both work together and lead. The Capitol Area Council, serving 15 counties in the Austin area, is piloting this exciting new program. We're always looking for STEM professionals and people who just love working with kids to support all aspects of the program and excite more of our youth about STEM!
