Hospice of Michigan

  • 1 person is interested

Quality of care is one of the cornerstones of our mission - a mission that could not be accomplished without the many 'helping hands' of our volunteers. Our Veteran patients often request visits from other Veterans, who can best understand their unique end of life needs. We are seeking volunteers who are Veterans, to visit hospice patients who are Veterans. These patients reside throughout southeast Michigan, in their own homes and in various senior living communities. Our hospice volunteers have shared that they find their work to be personally gratifying and meaningful, and we hope that you will share in this experience.

Volunteers will be provided with ongoing one-on-one staff support throughout their service with us, and will be invited to ongoing education opportunities, and appreciation events. Our volunteers must complete an online application, interview, background checks, an orientation class, fingerprinting, and annual TB testing.

Arbor Hospice requires that any person who has suffered a personal loss wait a period of 12 months prior to volunteering. Thank you for considering this enriching and unique volunteer opportunity.

Description

What sets us apart

Our staff - Our dedicated doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors and hospice aides form a "cocoon of care" around our patients and families, providing comfort, support and dignity.

Our expertise - Because we are one of the largest hospices in the nation, we have specialists in many areas, including pediatric hospice, pain management, research and care for people with advanced dementia and other illnesses.

Our experience - We have been serving our communities for more than 30 years. Among our 600 employees, we have more board-certified hospice physicians and nurses than other hospices.

Our locations - We have offices and worksites throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Wherever you are, we have a team of hospice specialists who can help you.

Our commitment - We care for all who need and seek our care, regardless of their age, diagnosis or ability to pay. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for our patients and families and for admissions.

Our size - We serve nearly 800 patients and their families every day; nearly one in four hospice patients in Michigan.
