Mission Statement
Pennsylvanians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (PADP) is a grassroots organization dedicated to ending capital punishment in Pennsylvania. We believe that there are safe and fair alternatives to executions. PADP organizes Pennsylvania citizens through direct outreach and community education. By mobilizing a powerful network of individuals and groups, we are implementing a comprehensive strategy designed to put a stop to executions.
Description
PADP members engage in activism, advocacy, and outreach with the goal of ending capital punishment. Our members have come to their opposition to the death penalty for many reasons -- concern about executing an innocent person; their faith traditions; the devastating impacts on families of murder victims;lack of deterrence; racial and economic bias; exorbitant costs; and big government. We host speakers who have been impacted personally such as those who wree wrongly convicted, and sentenced to death, families of murder victims, faith leaders; attorneys; and law enforcement professionals. We write letters to the editor, op-eds, blog posts, and articles. We create audio, video, and other content for traditional and social media. We collaborate with a wide variety of organizations and individuals. Together, we will put an end to the death penalty.
