Salmon Habitat Enhancement Project

Saturday December 16, 2017, 10 am-2 pm @ 700 Platform Bridge Road, Point Reyes Station, CA 94956 (intersection of Sir Francis Drake Blvd and Platform Bridge Rd)

Help improve habitat for the salmon of Lagunitas Creek! We will be planting native plants in order to help stabilize the banks of the creek. Woody debris structures have recently been installed in the creek at the sites where we will plant, which provide shelter to juvenile salmonids including Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, and Steelhead Trout.

Our efforts to revegetate these areas will improve the water quality and overall health of this beloved watershed. We will also have an avian biologist leading a bird walk during the event, so get ready to brush up on your birding!

Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Lunch and some refreshments (including coffee!) will be provided. We’re hoping for rain, so come prepared for cold/rainy weather, with a sturdy pair of close-toed shoes or rain boots and extra water. The event will be held rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the case of very heavy rain or high winds.

Call (415) 945-1128 on the morning of the event for updated information.

Mission Statement

To manage our natural resources in a sustainable manner and to provide our customers with reliable, high-quality water at a reasonable price.

Description

The MMWD volunteer program strives to connect people to nature and their water source by offering hands-on activities on the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed.

Volunteers are currently engaged in habitat restoration, trails maintenance, environmental education, biological monitoring and geographic information systems mapping.

Through their experiences volunteers gain skills, become stewards, contribute to the health and safety of the watershed and have fun while doing so.

MMWD manages 18,500 acres of land in the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed and 2,750 acres adjacent to the Nicasio and Soulajule reservoirs in west Marin. The Mt. Tamalpais Watershed has been identified by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a key component of a biosphere reserve, a designation given to biodiversity hot spots like the Amazon rainforest.
