ORGANIZATION: Above and Beyond family Recovery Center

  • 7 people are interested

The Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center is located on the West Side in one of Chicago's poorest neighborhoods. The Recovery Center provides free services to the most under-served citizens - those with substance abuse issues, often coupled with mental health challenges. Because many have prior convictions, they have trouble finding work and housing, further exacerbating depression and the vicious cycle. Above and Beyond tries mightily to fill the many needs of our clientele: counseling, mentoring, housing, employment and food - all for free.
We will be offering basic skills tutoring for our clients. We envision reading, writing and basic math tutoring in addition to giving assistance to our clients in obtaining food handling licenses and other basic work licenses.
Our program will run Saturdays from 10 AM to 12:30 PM starting January 6, 2018.
If you have experience or interest in teaching or mentoring and are interested in volunteering at Above and Beyond, we would love to have you! Please get in touch.
