About

Volunteers secure and furnish an apartment for incoming refugee families and aid them in settling into their new home. Tasks may include:

  • Searching for an apartment, facilitating a lease, ensuring IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) compliance, acting a liaison between landlords and refugee families
  • Educating refugee families on landlord and neighbor relations
  • Organizing donations/purchases of household goods and furniture to prepare an apartment for the arrival of a refugee family
  • arranging pickup, storage, and transportation of household goods donations
  • Managing basic home maintenance requests
  • Preparing an apartment for a refugee family's arrival: purchasing initial groceries, preparing a culturally appropriate meal, preparing a welcoming environment
