We are in need of volunteers to help with our soup and bread dinner for Wenatchee Valley Empty Bowls. This event is to help Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council raise awareness about food insecurity and to raise money for the NCW Food Distribution Center and local food banks and meal programs.
In order to make the final part of this multi-day community-centric event a reality, we will need the help of community members who are willing to volunteer the latter part of Saturday, March 10th. We are looking for people who would be interested in helping us set up, welcome and register guests, direct guests through the process of finding their bowls and towards the food line, and serving soups, bread, and beverages. We will also need assistance with managing our silent auction items and donation collection and with general tasks to support the event. At the end, we will also need some help to take down and clean up at the end.
* Food Handlers permit required for anyone helping with serving soups and bread.
A bit more about our Empty Bowls...
Wenatchee Valley Empty Bowls is an annual event designed to bring together the community through creative expression and hunger relief education. At this event community members are invited, in exchange for a $10 donation, $35 for a family of up to five, to come and paint a commemorative ceramic bowl at one of four community paintings and attend a simple soup and bread dinner.
In Chelan and Douglas Counties there are approximately 1 in 4 children experiencing food insecurity, which is the state of being without reliable access to sufficient, affordable and nutritious food. It is estimated that a little over 10,500 community members in our two counties are in need of food assistance on a weekly basis. The NCW Food Distribution Center, a program of Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council, helps support nine local food banks and several meal programs to better serve these community members and reduce the stress felt from not having enough to eat, or knowing where the next meal may come from.
