ORGANIZATION: Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County

VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Special Projects & Events Volunteer is responsible for assisting the Development Coordinator and Development Assistant with needs that arise in relation to special events, donor stewardship, and our fundraising model.

ACTIVITIES INCLUDE

  • Making calls to thank donors for their gift
  • Writing thank you notes and addressing envelopes
  • Preparing packets and folders for meetings or point-of-entry events
  • Assisting with the preparation for special events hosted by Second Harvest
  • Other tasks include envelope printing, letter stuffing, labeling, stamping, and sealing

REQUIREMENTS

  • Detail-oriented
  • Reliable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Confident speaking over the phone
  • Neat and legible handwriting
  • Ability to take and follow direction well
  • Experience or enthusiasm for all aspects of event planning
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

HOURS

1-2 days a week for 4 hours total; Monday - Friday between 8:30am - 4:30pm. Must be willing to commit to a minimum of 2 months. (Can be flexible)

TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

Training and supervision will be provided by Savina Tarca, Development Coordinator and Vince Tran, AmeriCorps VIP.

HOW THIS ROLE IS TIED TO OUR MISSION

Second Harvest Food Bank relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations to fund its day-to-day operations and programs that aim to end hunger in Orange County. In this role, a volunteer will help us to follow-up with potential partners and thank donors who have given to our organization. They will also assist us prepare for our Special Events, including Serving Hope Breakfast, Harvesters Fashion Show & Luncheon, and "No Lunch" Lunch. Additional revenue will allow us to expand our programs and enable us to reach the nearly 336,000 people in our community who may not know where their next meal will come from.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is providing food assistance and helping our community weather the COVID-19 variants. While the economy improves for many, there are nearly 350,000 individuals each month who continue to rely on Second Harvest for food. We must keep the momentum going to ensure all are well fed in Orange County. Above all, we are committed to nourishing everyone in our community who needs help.

Second Harvest distributes donated and purchased foods through a network of over 250 partner agencies throughout the county and every dollar donated to provides food for at least three meals.
