Hello Volunteers!
Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering with Common Threads! We always welcome new volunteers who are passionate about cooking, nutrition, and children. However, cooking and/or working in a school environment experience is not mandatory. My name is Shazeen Sterlin and I am the Program Manager for Common Threads here in Miami

Current Common Threads Volunteer Opportunities:
After School Cooking Class at Schools:
Our kids cooking classes teach students how to make a healthy meal while they explore cuisines from across the globe. Cooking class volunteers work with a small group of 8-12-year-old students to execute recipes and foster teamwork. Volunteers may even pick up some new cooking skills themselves!
We currently have After School Cooking Classes that are in need of volunteers!
We are asking our volunteers to please commit to the remaining weeks at a school site. It is important for students to build a rapport with the volunteers and helps to see the same mentoring adults week after week.
Before I can send you more details about the school sites, volunteers are required to get a background check in Miami-Dade County. Visit this site for more info such as requirements and locations: http://www.miamidade.gov/police/fingerprints-backgroundchecks.asp
Next Steps:
- Fill out Volunteer Application Form
- Get a background check.
- Please email me a copy of your background check results. (ssterlin@commonthreads.org)
- I will send details of the school locations and times for the After School Cooking Classes.
- Reply back to me with preferred locations, days and times.
- You will be placed at your site.
**Our After School Cooking Classes occur at many different school sites and at different times. You must follow the steps before you get access to detailed information about the schools and time.
