Assistants will perform light to moderate maintenance work. Duties may include mowing of existing parking lots and around the visitor center, light construction or carpentry, litter pickup and general upkeep of refuge property. Volunteers with surveying experience are needed to assist with boundary sign posting and maintenance. Good physical condition and familiarity in using power tools preferred. Positions will be available year round.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is located along the lower Detroit River and western shoreline of Lake Erie, just 20 miles south of Detroit and 50 miles north of Toledo, Ohio. Situated in a major metropolitan area, the refuge’s location is truly unique.
