On Monday, January 15th, 2018, City Year Chicago will host its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service. Community members and volunteers will come together to help uplift and transform the Gale Community Academy in the Rogers Park community through physical service.
Volunteers will help create a more welcoming and positive school environment by performing service projects that include painting inspirational and motivational murals, enlivening spaces throughout the building with school culture and color, reinvigorating functional spaces like stairwells with fresh paint, and completing light construction projects.
Please join us in supporting the students, staff, and community members of Gale and Rogers Park as we give back to Chicago, the city we love. All skill levels are invited to join, but volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Lunch, snacks, and water will be provided. We encourage you to please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes to paint in.

Mission Statement
The mission of City Year Chicago (CYCHI) is to advance educational equity & empower under-resourced communities by providing learning environments that maximize student potential, while developing & deploying the next generation of civic-minded change agents.
Description
City Year was founded in 1988 on the belief that young people can change the world. City Year is an education focused, nonprofit organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service to keep students in school and on track to graduation. At City Year's 21 urban locations across the United States and two international affiliates, teams of trained young people called corps members serve full-time in schools for the academic year as tutors, mentors and role models. By focusing on attendance, behavior and course performance, which identify students who are at risk of dropping out, corps members are uniquely able to help students and schools succeed.
