PetsEmpower.org is a nonprofit umbrella organization increasing access to short-term fostering for domestic violence survivors in Massachusetts. We give courageous domestic violence survivors a positive alternative to pet relinquishment or remaining in abusive situations with their pet due to a lack of options to place their pet. We allow owners to find safety for themselves and their pets through short-term pet fostering and later reunite, generating positive health outcomes.

We are looking for a grant writer to identify grants as well as draft and submit proposals. The Volunteer Grant Writer will be a crucial part of the development of PetsEmpower.org and is necessary for keeping pets and people together.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify grant opportunities for PetsEmpower
• Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources
• Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants
• Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors
• Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
• Communicate with Operations Manager through Slack online

• Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
• Strong editing skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Knowledge of fundraising information sources
• Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors

• Experience with grant writing
• Previous experience with non-profit fundraising preferred
• Experience working in deadline-driven environments
