This position is to help establish and direct a Battle-Buddies chapter in San Diego.

Volunteer Job description: An Opportunity is here for exciting, rewarding, meaningful work with Battle-Buddies a 501(c) (3), IRS approved, public charity. A former military mental health provider is needed in the San Diego, California region to lead a newly forming Battle-Buddies chapter. The most important quality necessary for this position is a true heart for veterans.
Approximate volunteer hours: 8-10 monthly.

Perfect for a retired or semi-retired mental health professional who has served in the military, this job requires proven ability to organize and lead. This person will serve as mentor and coach to volunteers trained in the Battle-Buddies model as they provide one to one peer support and advocacy for veterans. This person will report to a local board of directors and should be able to facilitate monthly peer supervision meetings either face-to-face or via telecom with Battle-Buddies and serve as their point of contact to identify resources for the veterans they serve. Knowledge of and the ability to successfully collaborate with local treatment providers and federal, state, and local programs offering veteran services is required. The successful candidate will be comfortable with public speaking and recruiting local subject matter experts who are willing to lend their expertise to the Battle-Buddies mission. Experience in fund raising a plus.

Primarily through confidential peer support, informed advocacy and expert referral we will help veterans overcome barriers to healthcare, access work and educational opportunities and re-integrate into civilian society.

Description

The core of our organization are our trained Battle Buddies. All with military experience, Battle Buddies serve as mentors and guides to veterans while also making referrals to needed services. Other volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds including, but not limited to, social work, yoga, medicine, accounting, banking and law. We call these volunteers Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). SMEs offer their services, within the scope of their professions, at no charge to our veterans and their families. Trained volunteer Battle Buddies, are paired with returning veterans, according to each veteran’s need and experience. The Battle Buddies’ mission is to help our returning veterans transition successfully to the civilian world.
