ORGANIZATION: SIMPLY THE BASICS

  • 5 people are interested

The Community Day of Service provides care to more than 1,500 people experiencing homelessness in a single day at the San Francisco Bill Graham Auditorium. The day includes over 100 providers and 500 volunteers that help escort Participants to each service area.

"PHC Experts" are volunteers that receive an additional 45 minute training prior to the event so that they can act as "information". You will have a sign that you are now a PHC Expert, and if anyone has questions about the map, areas, or other PHC programs they can flag you down! It is a really helpful way to ensure everyone receives the care that they need.

The role is a great fit for any of our office volunteers that already know a great deal. We will have a special training for these volunteers prior to the event so they feel more prepared.

Shifts are 8:30AM-12:30pm or 12:00pm-3:30pm on Wednesday, December 6th. You must be available for a brief training the day prior, Tuesday, at either 10AM, 2PM, or 5PM.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Simply the Basics is to provide for individuals, organizations, and communities their most basic needs with dignity so that they can focus on bigger goals. We simply remove barriers, allowing people to have the opportunity to achieve.

Description

Simply the Basics is inspired by Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the philosophy that people are unable to focus on any needs higher than their current level on the following pyramid. If they are unable to meet needs at the very basic level (food, shelter, clothing, education, and hygiene), they will be incapable of moving up in the pyramid to reach greater goals (job security, sobriety, mental and physical health, and self actualization).

By alleviating the struggle to meet a most basic need, a person can achieve independence in other areas. By removing the barrier of finding the next meal or safe place to sleep, securing hygiene products, and meeting any other basic human needs...People are given the Opportunity to Achieve.
