Cape Florida Lighthouse is Miami-Dade's oldest historical structure. Located on the southern tip of Key Biscayne, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park gets thousands of visitors every year. One of the main attractions at the Park is the Light house and Keeper's Cottage Museum.

The Lighthouse Docent is responsible for greeting visitors and interpreting the historic, cultural, and natural points of interest in the park and lighthouse compound.

Volunteer Benefits:

  • To enjoy the most unobstructed view of Miami and beautiful Biscayne Bay.

  • To gain experience in public speaking as an interpretive tour guide.

  • To meet, greet, and work with hundreds of people from the United States and around the world.

  • To learn about cultural and natural history through research and contacts with historians, and lighthouse

    enthusiasts who will be on your tours.

Climbing the stairs is a great form of cardio-vascular exercise for a healthy heart, but is not required for the position.

Training will be provided on these various topics before you start.

Description

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park has embarked on a long-term ecological restoration aimed at reestablishing and managing beach dune, coastal strand, freshwater wetlands, maritime hammock, and mangrove forest communities. The Cape Florida Project aimes to restore ecosystem function and connect a culturally diverse urban population with nature through volunteerism and education.
