Home Hangouts -- Come hang out!!

At MV Advancements, we enhance the lives of people experiencing developmental disabilities through residential, employment, and community inclusion services. Our vision for the volunteer program is to take a holistic approach by integrating these three different branches, as well as to build relationships between the community and our clients, to create a more diverse culture for all.

As a Community Companion, you will serve as a direct companion to our clients in their own homes, which are multi-person dwellings provided by our organization. There are Direct Support Professionals on site 24/7, so Community Companions are not responsible for direct care or support to our clients, but are rather there to just visit, and act as a friend and community presence in their home. Community Companions can read to clients, play games, host game nights, movie nights, dinner nights, craft nights, skill-sharing, BBQ's, garden, bake, make art, play music--- there are no limits!

There are multiple levels that a Community Companion can work at. Volunteers can come and go at their own convenience, have weekly or monthly planned activities, or even take clients out of their home to go fishing, camping, out to the library, or to any other community area!

Our main community inclusion services office is located in McMinnville at the listed address, but we have residences all over Polk, Marion, and Yamhill counties, so you can volunteer at a location that's convenient for you!

Get in touch, and we will schedule a meeting where we can discuss how you'd like to fit into this program!

Mission Statement

To assist persons experiencing disabilities to develop to their highest potential and achieve fulfilling lives

Description

For over 50 years, we’ve helped adults with developmental disabilities reach their highest potential and achieve fulfilling lives. Our innovative approach and caring, responsive staff have allowed us to serve hundreds of clients through an ever-evolving set of services.

Founded in 1966 by Margaret Reavis Larsen as Mid-Valley Workshop, our primary focus was job-training. Under Margaret’s guidance, care and leadership Mid-Valley Workshop expanded its services to include housing and community activity programs. In 1993 the organization was renamed as Mid-Valley Rehabilitation to reflect this breadth of services.

Today we are MV Advancements, and we continue to provide supportive environments and programs for our clients. Together, we strive to create life-long fulfillment and growth.
