Reading buddies for elementary school students!

ORGANIZATION: Communities in Schools

Students who are behind in reading levels by third grade are more likely to drop out of school before graduating. Reading Buddies volunteers, come into one of our 13 elementary schools and provide extra support and encouragement to students by reading to a group during morning academics.

January 25th, we will host a Reading Day event at Normandy Village. We will rotate through classrooms reading to different groups of students.

United Way's Achievers For Life is a dropout prevention program that targets sixth-grade, at-risk students and provides them with academic support, a volunteer mentor or tutor and an integrated safety net of services for students and their families.
