Home Care Volunteers

ORGANIZATION: Gilchrist Services

Volunteering with hospice might be the most meaningful thing you'll ever do. Our home care volunteers provide respite so that patients don't have to be alone with caregivers need to leave the house for appointments, errands or a much needed visit with friends. They keep patients company and help them find enjoyment in activities like listening to music, reading, playing games or just having a conversation and reminiscing. Volunteers can also run errands for the family, such as light shopping.

Gilchrist provides care and support to families residing in Central Maryland, primarily in:

  • Baltimore City
  • Baltimore County
  • Harford County
  • Howard County

Volunteers are generally assigned to one patient at a time. All Gilchrist volunteers receive a comprehensive training that prepares them for providing support to individuals with life-limiting illnesses. A four hour a week commitment is standard.

Mission Statement

Our Promise Gilchrist provides quality compassionate care, counseling and support to people at every stage of serious illness, so they may live life to the fullest. Description

For more than 20 years, Gilchrist has been providing compassionate care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses. Most noteworthy, our programs offer comprehensive, coordinated care that addresses all of your family’s needs-whether they are medical, emotional, social or spiritual.

You may know Gilchrist best for the care we provide people near the end of life. Yet, we offer so much more than hospice. Above all, today’s Gilchrist extends services to individuals with serious illness who need care and support well in advance of hospice care. While we provide hospice care for children and adults, we also provide counseling and support before and after the loss of a loved one.
