Americorps VISTA is a national service program designed to fight poverty in the United States and U.S. Territories. Americorps VISTA strengthens local nonprofits organizations and government agencies that work to alleviate poverty, through the efforts of its VISTA members. VISTA members commit to a year of service to help increase the capabilities of poverty fighting nonprofits and government agencies. In return for their service VISTA members have choice in receiving an education award, to go towards tuition or student loans, or an end of the year stipend.

This AmeriCorps VISTA position is a full-time 12-month assignment based in Canoga Park, CA. The focus will beon developing projects that will enhance long-term sustainability of a YouthBuild program. The VISTA member will work with a dynamic team and contribute to a national initiative as they strengthen the infrastructure and capacity of R.U.T.H. YouthBuild.

VISTA Member Duties:

Member duties may include but are not limited to:

  • help to in the securing of funding
  • Help in the securing of in-kind donations
  • Create tools, systems, and databases to streamline operations.
  • Develop partnerships with community stakeholders
  • Create communications materials & strategies for community awareness.

Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills (typing, Word, Excel, Google Drive apps, etc.)
  • Have a strong spirit of service
  • Understand What AmeriCorps VISTA is
  • Commitment of one full year of paid volunteer service
  • Commitment to work full-time
  • Willingness to do capacity building work
  • Effective communication skills

Alliance for Community Empowerment, Inc. (ACE) was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2013 in response to community need. Since its inception, ACE has help disenfranchised, young people overcome barriers by addressing the core issues facing low-income communities. Through its RUTH YouthBuild and GRYD programs, ACE has helped youth rebuild their life and set the course for a better future by providing education, job readiness training, leadership/social development, counseling and supporting services by utilizing an engaging and holistic approach. ACE is grounded in the fundamental belief that young people, when given the right assistance, tools and role models, can transform their lives and their community.
