Booth Volunteer for Alfalit at 2017 Miami Book Fair

Alfalit International will be exhibiting and promoting our domestic and international literacy programs at the 2017 Miami Book Fair ("MBF"). The MBF is an 8-day literary festival, running from Nov 12-19, 2017. As an exhibitor we will be part of the Street Fair for 3 days - Nov 17, 18 and 19 (Fri-Sun) from 10 AM to 6 PM.
Purpose
- To increase awareness and gain traction for our domestic programs
- Make Alfalit publications available for sale to the larger public
- Recruit volunteer teachers
- Donations are always welcome, of course

Saturday, Nov 18 - 9.30am to 1.30 pm, 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm or 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm
Sunday, Nov 19 - 9.30am to 1.30 pm, 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm or 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm
- All volunteer shifts may require prolonged standing and lifting and moving weights up to 25 lb.
- All volunteers who sign up for shifts at the fair booth will have to undergo training and be comfortable engaging with fairgoers and giving information about Alfalit in English. Training will be provided at the fair booth on Friday, while the booth is open. Details to be provided by email.
- All volunteers who sign up for shifts on Saturday or Sunday will need to procure their own admission credential ($10) at the entrance to the fair
- Parking is limited in the Miami downtown area. Please plan travel accordingly. Alfalit will not be able to arrange for parking or reimburse for the parking charges.
- While not on duty at the booth, volunteers will, of course, be able to enjoy the wide range of events and activities at the MBF.
- All volunteers will have to complete the volunteer application form and sign the code of conduct (to be sent by email).

Description
Alfalit International, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization registered in the State of Florida. Founded in 1961, we change lives through literacy, basic education, early childhood development, job skills, and conversational English in Central & South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Portugal, and the United States of America where we focus on the literacy and conversational English needs of adult immigrants. The majority of our students are adults but we also reach out to youth and preschoolers when funding allows us to do so. All of our students are poor and many live in the remotest of areas. Our classes are taught in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Haitian-Creole as well as some indigenous languages. While faith-based, Alfalit welcomes all religious affiliations (or none at all) to join our classes as students and teachers.
