Mentormentee

The YMCA Mentoring program is designed to build a better future for youth, by helping them reach their fullest potential through the support of caring adults. We have two amazing mentoring programs.

In our group mentoring program, we are focusing on helping youth with the transition into a new school setting (i.e. elementary to middle school, middle school to high school). We cover topics such as the importance of having a positive peer group, how to effectively express your feelings, maintaining a healthy body image, and so on. Mentors must be willing to commit to 2 hours a week over the course of a semester.

In our one on one program, we match mentors that help youth achieve their goals, improve self-esteem, increase school performance and positive relationships. Mentors are friends, counselors, role models, supporters, and guides. Mentors must be willing to commit to 1-3 hours a week over the course of a year.

All mentors must be at least 21 years old, pass a background check, and go through training in order to volunteer. A criminal record does not necessarily exclude you from mentoring and we encourage volunteers from all backgrounds.
