The BLF Foundation is enlisting your help to model the next generation of leaders through our "Developing
Future Leaders" Mentorship program. Each mentor will be matched with a selected student from our scholar-
ship applicant pool for a year duration. Once a month, we will meet to work on 10 professional development
topics to support the growth and development of the students in the mentorship program. You will get to work
hands on with them, as well as arrange outside activities with your student based upon interests.
There are a variety of reasons to become a mentor:
* Become a "big brother or sister"
* Create countless memories
* Experience a sense of pride in another individual’s progression in life
* Give back to the community
* Help assist a younger version of yourself
There will be 10 scheduled meetings, with a focus on a different topic that impacts college students.
Open discussion is encouraged as different viewpoints can help students understand various ways to
tackle situations. Each scheduled meeting will include a "homework" activity for the students to complete
to demonstrate mastery and also build a portfolio to demonstrate their unique value proposition to employers.
These topics will include:
Financial Literacy
* Time Management
* Personal Branding
* Importance of Building a Network
* Critical Decision Making
* Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship
* Goal and Vision Setting
* Personal Development
* Civic Service and Community Engagement
* Leadership Philosophy and Skill Development

Mission Statement
The mission of the BLF Foundation is to advance the development, graduation, and retention of minority college students through mentorship and scholarship programs.
Description
Every year, there are millions of college students that embark upon a collegiate degree. Statistically, minority students struggle with retention at most colleges and universities.*The six-year graduation rate for most minority students is 43%. The 43% of minority graduates represents only 14-16% of the total US population of minorities. Between 1995 and 2015, among blacks, the percentage with bachelor’s degrees went up by only six percentage points, from 15 to 21 percent, and for Hispanics it had risen seven percentage points, from 9 to 16 percent.
BLF Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded to address the need for mentorship and scholarship of minority students. Through our Annual Richard Fontenot and Susan Moore-Fontenot Honorary Scholarship, we are able to assist with the many costs of attending college. To ensure that these students have the best guidance during their collegiate years, we pair them with mentors and perform professional development seminars monthly during the course of a calendar year in our Developing Future Leaders Mentorship Program to help them gain perspective and wisdom on how to navigate their undergraduate career and successfully master the corporate world.
