Alive & Free is the violence prevention program of the Accelerator YMCA. Alive & Free builds meaningful relationships with youth involved with gangs, violence and the juvenile justice system and connects youth to people and services that help them stay Alive & Free.

Using personal experience, strong ties to the local community, and extensive training, Alive & Free Outreach Workers help build a web of support to surround youth involved with gangs, violence and the juvenile justice system. Outreach works go where youth are in the community and provide a bridge to relevant services, helping youth navigate challenges or conflict along the way. Outreach workers support youth identifying goals, such as engagement in education and employment, and overcoming barriers to achieving these goals. If a youth is not engaged in referred services, the Outreach Workers provide early intervention and are trained and expected to de-escalate conflict. The also help youth recognize their own change process and support youth by acknowledging their positive efforts.

With the holidays approaching, we have a very special volunteer opportunity! Within our Alive & Free Program, we have 10 families that need to be adopted this holiday season. We are looking for volunteer groups who want to give back to those in need. The holiday season is often a very stressful time of year for many people. We want to provide help to those who could really use the extra support.
