The Lake Merritt United Methodist Church (LMUMC) has been hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner serving the Oakland community for over 30 years.
Every year, hundreds of neighbors and dozens of volunteers gather for a free Thanksgiving Meal in the Stark Room of LMUMC. As a congregation, we host the meal, including inviting the broader community, gather the food resources, and recruit and equip volunteers.
Many guests hear about the Thanksgiving Meal when they visit the church's Food Pantry while others learn about the meal by driving or walking by the church. Food resources are gathered through monetary and in kind donations from church members and through partnerships with the Alameda County Community Food Bank and local grocery stores.
Volunteers come from high schools, churches, or no affiliation and fill the wide range of roles from set up, food prep, musical entertainment, food service, and so on!
We are in need of a Volunteer Executive Chef to serve Wednesday, November 22!
Responsibilities include:
- Oversees roasting of 36 turkeys in church’s commercial kitchen (2 traditional stoves, 2 convection ovens)
- Prepares pots of turkey innards for use in gravy the next day
- Trains and supervises volunteer carvers who prepare trays of turkey to be served on Thanksgiving
