Become an Aspire Hospice Volunteer
Hospice Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team, filling roles that range from direct contact with patients to providing clerical and fundraising support for the organization. Hospices that participate with Medicare are required to utilize Hospice Volunteers alongside their paid clinical and administrative staff. Hospice Volunteers describe their work as gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful. Hospices require a lot from their Hospice Volunteers and value them greatly.

As an Aspire Hospice Volunteer, you can contribute as few or as many hours as you wish, on a flexible schedule of your choosing. Typically, a Hospice Volunteer assignment takes one hour a week and consists of a one-hour visit to an assigned patient. You can help out in many different way. Our Hospice Volunteers are divided into several categories:
General Hospice Volunteers: General Hospice Volunteers choose to act as friendly visitors-offering support, companionship and practical, caring help to hospice patients. Interactions may include talking, reading, watching television, holding a patient’s hand, playing games, listening to music, writing letters, looking through pictures, or any other activities they may enjoy.
Administrative Hospice Volunteers: Administrative Hospice Volunteers help in our office, performing clerical duties, check-in calls and helping with special projects.
Professional Hospice Volunteers: Professional Hospice Volunteers may offer services such as Spiritual Care, Pet Therapy, manicures, Hair Styling, etc. Professional licenses must be current and valid in the state of Oklahoma.
Bereavement Hospice Volunteers: Bereavement Hospice Volunteers assist the bereavement coordinators in communicating with our families after they have lost a loved one. They may also provide bereavement-related administrative support.
Special Skills and Interests: Musicians often volunteer to play at hospice inpatient facilities. Many hospices utilize Hospice Volunteers to maintain their grounds and landscaping. They may play games with residents or assist with special events in area nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
