December 15 is what we refer to as ELF Packing Day. Operation ELF works with local shelters (homeless shelters and battered women's shelters) community centers for at risk children and orphanages like the Nashua Children's Home to find children's gift wish and then coordinate with sponsors who will buy those gifts - to the tune of about 1400 children and thousands of presents. Then, on one day - December 15th this year - we gather all of those gifts, code them and bag them and load them on to trucks to be delivered the next day. Presents are put in brown paper bags so that the moms and dads (if they are available) can wrap the gift themselves to participate in the giving. It takes a lot of people to do that all in about 6 hours. It is crazy, fun and we even provide a potluck meal for everyone (hint bring something to share).

There are also many other ways to volunteer in addition to the packing day.

Here's a video of the Operation ELF packing day from 2018. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/G_n2PLTrPMA

Description

OPERATION ELF (Everybody Loves Families) HOLIDAY GATHERING

It’s a party! It’s a donation drop-off site for gently-used kids’ clothing and toys! It’s a potluck dinner! It’s music and face painting! It’s sitting on Santa’s knee! It’s playing a dreidel game. It’s a holiday dinner food drive! It’s a drive for new or gently-used household goods! It’s the place where folks bring the gift(s) to fulfill a child’s wish list

Volunteers produce this event starting weeks in advance. Men and women join forces to gathering requests from the charities, organizing them, and distributing the wish lists to gift sponsors. These giving people go shopping and fill each child’s request, and perhaps do even a little bit more.

Other teams handle decorating the event site, organizing transportation and gift delivery, sorting and packing of everything the day of the event, entertaining the volunteers’ children during the event, and providing a feast to nourish the body while the event nourishes the spirit.
