Join South Sound Prairies in their on-going restoration efforts (indoors!) We are looking for volunteers interested in helping us clean native wildflower seeds. Each year staff and volunteers grow and/or collect hundreds of pounds of native seed. Much of that seed can be cleaned mechanically. Some of this seed cannot be cleaned mechanically, for various reasons. The seed that cannot be cleaned mechanically is usually small lots of seed, or larger lots of odd shaped or delicate seeds. The seeds that are cleaned by volunteers will be used in various habitat restoration projects across the prairie ecosystem.
Volunteers interested in seed cleaning will be helping out on the 2nd and/or 4th Fridays of the month at our Shotwell's Landing Nursery facility near the town of Littlerock, WA.
Volunteers will learn techniques that can be utilized for personal farm/home scale seed cleaning projects and have the opportunity to learn about our native plants form the farmers who grow (and clean) them. Volunteers will be working with CNLM staff, who can answer all of your seed and plant related questions. This is a great opportunity for volunteers interested in winter indoor projects, native plants, restoration, prairies, pollinators, and rare ecosystems.
